β€œIt is a fascinating and informative read and I know that I shall refer to it many times in the years to come…”

Book review by Tira Brandon-Evans, Amazon.co.uk, 9 October 2003.

Michael Bayley had an enduring passion for history, folklore and legends, with a particular focus on the Thames Valley, Chilterns and their environs, where he was born and lived his life. Over the years, he authored many books, journal articles and pamphlets on these subjects. Some are in print and available from bookshops and online retailers. Others are out of print, or were self-published and are no longer available. The aim of this website is to list all of Michael’s publications and provide links to their publishers and retailers, where known.

Michael was also a prodigious artist and illustrator. He has published several hand-drafted antiquarian maps illustrating the region’s heritage and history – ranging from field names and the courses of flash lock canals to a gazetteer of ghost stories and myths! He also illustrated other authors’ books and journal articles. We have included a list of those that we know about… but I am sure there are many more!

The website provides free downloads of some of Michael’s self-published works in PDF, EPUB and MOBI file formats that are compatible with most computers, tablets and eBook-readers. During his lifetime, Michael loved to share his enthusiasm for history and folklore with like-minded souls. He frequently gave entertaining lectures at local club and societies – and sold copies of his books and pamphlets to those from the audience who were intrigued with his stories and wanted to know more. We hope that publishing some of Michael’s work as eBooks will enable a new set of readers to share his insightful, entertaining and sometimes controversial view of the past.
