Whether you are a native or a newcomer, or just a visitor, you will probably have seen the Sarsen Boulder by the seat at the east end of Cookham High Street, and you may have heard of the Tarry Stone or Cookham Stone. But if you try to look up the stones in a local history, and there are many available sources, you will find few mentions of them.
I am not a real historian, who will only delve into reputable or official sources and who quotes dull dates and authors. I am just an accidental survival of native Thames-cum-Chiltern Hundred yeoman stock, who collects old wives tales and has become a storyteller. Let me tell you the true stories of Cookam’s stones…
